You can add individual features or entire feature bundles to your FreePBX phone system (PBXact comes bundled with most of them) to enhance certain built-in features, create a call-center solution, and enhanced failover & redundancy with High Availability. Most feature add-ons have 25 year licenses so you don’t have to worry about annual maintenance fees.
FreePBX and especially PBXact comes bundled with what most businesses need, but if you have a "special phone system need" it can most likely be covered by a commercial add-on. The pricing for same for FreePBX is below.

We can mention a hundred things that FreePBX (and PBXact) do better than VoIP services like RingCentral and others. The ONLY things we have found to be a "negative" is as follows: FreePBX (and PBXact) has an obvious upfront cost that's higher than i.e. RingCentral since you buy and own your PBX. FreePBX (and PBXact) doesn't, as of yet, have the ability to send faxes via Email, which we found useful in RingCentral. But owning and utilizing a full PBX blows this kind of small stuff away!!!
